Designer Jeans Auctions
By Amanda Sage
eBay is one of the best sources for major discounts on designer denim. New jeans tend to be priced higher than used ones, but if you're really in love with a certain style and you want that pair exactly as you've seen it in the boutiques, buying them new on eBay is the way to go. You can usually find eBay offerings of new (new with tags, or NWT) jeans under $25 from Citizens of Humanity, a very popular brand designed by Jerome Dahan of 7 For All Mankind. Citizens jeans have the same excellent quality as Sevens, but they are a little more glamorous. I call them "first-date jeans" because they're casual enough to wear out to coffee or a quick drink, but still quite elegant and impressive. If, however, you like to try out different brands and styles, I recommend bidding on previously owned designer jeans. To ensure good quality, go for items labeled "EUC" (excellent used condition). Sometimes a used pair of jeans will have been professionally hemmed to fit the previous owner. This is a definite advantage for petite women like me. If the typical 34-inch inseam is too long and you don't want to have to make any alterations, look for pairs that have been hemmed to the right length for you. If the item description does not specify inseam length, contact the seller and ask. To find out your inseam length, measure a pair of jeans you own that fit you well. Start at the point where the crotch meets the inside seam of the leg and measure down the inside seam to the cuff.
